We are parents, educators, students, community members, elected officials, and organizations united against the state takeover of Austin ISD.

Replacing our superintendent and governing board with unelected appointees who are accountable only to the Commissioner of Education is not acceptable to local voters or taxpayers.

Our district faces real challenges, but a state takeover is not the solution. State takeovers in other districts have negatively affected students and educators, not helped them.

We expect that ALL students in Austin ISD receive a strong education that reflects our community’s values, and that all educators and staff are respected and supported as professionals.

We believe that the state’s accountability system needs to change so that it better serves our students and educators.
